The Radiation Team
A doctor or group of doctors specially trained in radiation oncology will develop a treatment plan and prescribe the amount(s) and type(s) of treatment that is right for their melanoma patient. The specialists involved in care may include:

Radiation oncologist: a physician specializing in radiation therapy for cancer, who develops and carries out the radiation treatment plan

Radiation physicist: a scientist who helps plan the radiation treatments, calculates the amount of treatment planned, and provides oversight to ensure that the calculations are performed correctly

Dosimetrist: a member of the planning team who, under the supervision of the radiation oncologist and radiation physicist, helps calculate the proper radiation dose for treatment

Radiation therapy nurse: a licensed registered nurse who is experienced in the care of patients undergoing radiation therapy

Radiation therapist: a technician trained in setting up and administering external beam radiation treatments
