Richard (Richey) W. Kaverman, Jr.

12/13/1966 — 11/09/2012

Richey was first diagnosed with melanoma at the age of 18.  After removal of the cancer from his lymph node and shoulder, he showed no signs until Christmas 2007.  His lower back began to bother him.  He went to the emergency room and was dismissed with arthritis in his lower back.  Continued to have problems with pain and not being able to urinate on his own.  Finally they hospitalized him and ran tests and found a nodule on his lung they could biopsy.  I will never forget the day he told me he had bad news.  It was metastasized melanoma.  By the time he passed away, it had climbed up his spine.  He fought so hard and so bravely for 5 short years.  He was in so much pain but hid it from all of us.

I miss him more and more each day.  He was the type of man that made friends everywhere he went.  I miss his sense of humor.  I especially miss how much he loved me and his family.  Don’t take one day for granted, he used to tell me.  I hope they find a cure for this horrible disease.  Richey was too young (45) to die.  We were supposed to spend the rest of our days together.

I love you, my “mansie.”
