Survivor Stories

Martin Stein, Stage IV

Date Diagnosed: 04/22/2016

After being diagnosed with metastatic melanoma and having 11 lesions in my brain, I proceeded to have the following treatments. I had cranial surgery to remove a 10 cm lesion and followed it up with one treatment of gamma knife therapy. After that, I met with Dr. Christopher Lao at the University of Michigan cancer center. Dr. Lao put me on a regiment of immunotherapy consisting of Ipilimumab and Nivolumab. The remaining lesions began to shrink after the first treatment. Six weeks after my third treatment my scans were clear! I get scanned every three months and since November 2016 I am so very blessed to say my scans remain clear! I hope the story helps someone else. Always remember the light at the end of the tunnel is not always an oncoming train. There is always hope and you must believe that! And yes, life after cancer is amazing!
