Survivor Stories

Michele Wisniew, Stage III

Diagnosed 10/04/2017

Today I am a cancer survivor. I was diagnosed with Stage 3a melanoma last year 2017. The doctors originally thought I was stage 2 but a positive lymph node found during surgery changed my diagnosis to stage 3. Luckily my oncologist was an expert in the field, Dr Edward McClay with over 100 published papers. He immediately put me on Opdivo for 1 year. I received a treatment every 2 weeks, which I referred to as my “spa treatments” since I did get an hour of me time from a busy family life. My pet scans have been negative so far. I will have another pet scan in a couple of weeks. Keeping a positive attitude and continuing to work and go about normal life also helped me to fight this disease.
