Sun Safety is for EveryBODY – Join the Movement!
Whether you or someone you loved braved the challenges of melanoma, you understand more than most the critical importance of sun safety. Our latest initiative, Sun Safety is for EveryBODY, transcends a mere campaign—it embodies a community-wide rally against the damaging impacts of UV exposure. It serves as a beacon of hope and proactive engagement for those who’ve faced the sun’s darker side.
Our lives are filled with outdoor moments, from cheering at sporting events, browsing through farmers’ markets, enjoying the festivity of county fairs, supporting talents at high school events, getting lost in the music at local festivals, to celebrating together at holiday parades. Each event under the sun is a story, a memory, and a risk that we no longer have to take passively.
Why Join Us?
Becoming a Sun Safety Advocate means harnessing your story and experience to educate, inspire, and create real change in how our communities interact with the sun. We focus on:
- Education: Teaching sun safety essentials and UV protection measures.
- Engagement: Actively participating in community events to spread sun safety awareness.
- Empowerment: Equipping individuals and families with the tools and knowledge for lifelong sun safety.
What Are the Benefits for You?
- Connect: Join a network of melanoma survivors and advocates passionate about sun safety.
- Influence: Use your voice and experience to lead the charge in creating sun safety practices in your community.
- Impact: See the direct results of your efforts as local events adopt more sun-safe practices, reducing the risk of melanoma and other skin cancers.
How Does it Work?
- Begin by filling out our Volunteer Application to become a Sun Safety Advocate with AIM at Melanoma.
- Identify a community event that would be ideal for a sun safety informational table. This could be at your local library, farmer’s market, a sports event, a local outdoor festival, etc.
- Contact the event organizer(s) to secure a spot.
- Reach out to Ann Taylor, AIM’s Director of Community Engagement, to discuss your event and order your Sun Safety Awareness Box of educational materials provided by AIM.
- During your event, we encourage you to capture moments by taking photographs of your table, selfies, and other enjoyable snapshots. Share these pics with us by tagging @AIMatMelanoma on social media or by sending them via email to marketing@AIMatMelanoma.org.
By following these steps, you’ll be well on your way to promoting sun safety in your community! Remember that being a Sun Safety Advocate means leading by example. Make sure to practice safe sun habits yourself and encourage others to do the same.
