Nancy L. Kemp

10/09/1962 — 03/25/2011

Nancy came into my life in 2002 and brought brightness, joy, happiness, and an appreciation for life to me and my children. She told me she was diagnosed with melanoma in 2000 and that they believed they got all of it off her lower leg. We were married in 2005.

In early 2009, Nancy started feeling poorly and couldn’t determine what it was. Gastro-intestinal doctor couldn’t find anything. Her gynecologist thought it was a fibroid on her uterus. They decided a hysterectomy would solve the problem. During surgery, it was determined that it was not a fibroid but rather melanoma spread into one ovary. It was Stage IV metastatic and in her lymph system. Nancy fought bravely and without question for 21 months. We all believed that she would beat this wicked disease.

Nancy and I knew each other for nearly 9 years. I now understand the importance of enjoying every day we have. She brought me such tremendous joy. Nancy shared my children, two marriages, and four grand-children. She left this life at the young age of 48. At her memorial, the minister who wed us commented on how much life we fit into those few years together. Nancy had a quilt that had a saying on it … “Cherish Yesterday, Dream Tomorrow, Live Today.” This is so very true. We will always miss our Nancy, but we will never forget her.
