Women in Melanoma: A New Chapter in Europe

10 years in the making. And now, Europe.

For a decade, AIM at Melanoma’s Women in Melanoma (WIM) initiative has created a unique space in the United States for women oncologists working in melanoma to come together around science, careers, mentorship, leadership, and the experience of being a woman in the field.

But the vision was always bigger.

Bringing Women in Melanoma to Europe was a dream of AIM at Melanoma Founder Val Guild, who passed away before she could see it become a reality.

This year, that dream became real.

From August 28–30, our partner, Liga os Pontos – Associação Portuguesa de Melanoma, welcomed the inaugural Women in Melanoma Europe meeting to Lisbon, bringing together 16 remarkable women oncologists from across Europe, all connected by their work in melanoma.

The conversations were honest. The science was outstanding. And the exchange of ideas, experiences, and perspectives demonstrated exactly why Val believed so deeply in creating spaces like this.

Ten years ago, Women in Melanoma began with an idea: bring women in the field together and create room for conversations that might not happen anywhere else.

Now that community reaches across the Atlantic.

We wish Val could have been there to see it. We know how much this moment would have meant to her.

And this is only the first chapter of WIM Europe.
