Fifth Annual Evening in Memory of Valerie Guild

Scientific conferences are days-long meetings filled with education, data, and updates for physicians, researchers, scientists, and advocates. One of the biggest conferences in the cancer world just concluded in Chicago: The annual meeting for the American Society of Clinical Oncology—referred to by most as, simply, “ASCO.”
Attendees spend all day in meetings of their specialty, such as melanoma, as well as in general meetings about topics that are relevant to all of oncology. They have working breakfasts, lunches, and dinners—their calendars are full! By the time the evening rolls around, everyone is tired.
But for many in the melanoma and skin cancer physician/researcher community, there is one night at ASCO they keep clear in their calendars: AIM’s annual event in honor of our late founder. The Fifth Annual Evening in Memory of Valerie Guild was held last weekend, and it was a wonderful success, with 200 people in attendance.
Junior investigators, clinicians, researchers, and industry counterparts all mingle and socialize. “We talk about research, and we also talk about kids and life,” said one physician. “It’s one of my favorite nights of the year.”
Held at Roanoke restaurant, the event celebrates the work being done by those in the melanoma and skin cancer community. Speakers during the event were Lynn Schuchter and Mike Davies. Lynn, the former President of ASCO, is a medical oncologist at Penn Medicine, Chief of the Division of Hematology-Oncology at the Abramson Cancer Center at the University of Pennsylvania, and the Director of the Tara Miller Melanoma Center. Mike is Professor and Chair of the Department of Melanoma Medical Oncology, at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and Co-Leader of the MD Anderson Melanoma Moon Shot Program.
The event is a fundraiser and supports the mission of the AIM at Melanoma Foundation. AIM thanks all attendees—especially the sponsors of the event:
